Openwhyd is a free, open-source music curation platform for listeners who collect tracks from different services rather than relying on one catalog. It supports playlists built from YouTube, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Deezer and Vimeo, with tools for discovering community streams, following curators and adding descriptions to tracks. Web access is complemented by a Chrome extension, bookmarklet, API, self-hosting and desktop software for Windows, macOS and Linux.

Its main strength is breadth across the web. Users can save tracks from webpages, organize discoveries into playlists, search through annotations, embed playlists on external sites and export profile or collection data through the API. That makes Openwhyd particularly suitable for rare recordings, live performances, remixes and other music that may be spread across multiple platforms. The community stream and curator-following features add a discovery layer beyond personal collections, while the desktop Electron app can play Openwhyd tracks in the background.

Openwhyd is free, with no published paid tiers, so there is no subscription ladder to compare. Its open-source and self-hosted model will appeal to users who value control and portability, but it is not positioned as a complete replacement for a conventional subscription streaming service. The lack of verified offline listening and dedicated audio-quality features limits its fit for listeners focused on downloads or playback specifications. Choose Openwhyd for cross-service collection, discovery and sharing; choose another service if offline access or audio-quality controls are central requirements.
