OpenProject is web-based, open-source project management software for organizations using classic, Agile, or hybrid methods. Its work packages cover tasks, subtasks, deliverables, milestones, and dependencies, while teams can manage work through list, board, timeline, Gantt, and calendar views. It is especially suited to organizations that want a self-managed installation and a broad planning toolkit rather than a narrowly focused task tracker.

The free Community plan includes Community features, Community support, and self-managed installation at $0 per installation. The Basic plan starts at $7.25 per user per month when billed monthly, adds Basic Enterprise add-ons and email support, and has a 25-user minimum on the pricing page. Professional adds Professional Enterprise add-ons and phone support; Premium adds Premium Enterprise add-ons, remote hands, and installation and upgrade assistance; Corporate adds Corporate Enterprise add-ons, a dedicated support engineer, and onboarding support. A 14-day free trial is also available.

OpenProject’s breadth is a central strength: it combines Scrum and Kanban boards with roadmaps, portfolio management, resource planning, time tracking, cost reporting, calendars, reporting, and a built-in project wiki. Its REST API supports integrations and automation, and listed integrations include GitHub, GitLab, Nextcloud, OneDrive, SharePoint, and XWiki. The trade-off is a more structured suite for teams that need planning depth, while automation rules and guest access are not available. Choose OpenProject for open-source control, self-hosting, and cross-method project management; choose a simpler alternative if lightweight collaboration or guest participation is the priority.
