opendesk brings customer email, live chat and a help center into a shared ticket queue for support teams. Agents can assign conversations, set statuses and priorities, add internal notes and collaborate on replies. Its combination of channels and ticket workflows suits technical teams that want an open-source helpdesk, particularly those interested in running software on their own servers or connecting it to existing tools.

The published plans offer three routes. Free costs $0 per workspace per month and includes every feature, with $0.50 of AI usage per month. Pro costs $18 per user per month and also includes every feature, with $10 of pooled AI usage per seat per month. Self-hosted is listed at $0 one-time and includes unlimited mailboxes and team members, plus unlimited AI with your own key. The plan distinction is therefore centered on AI usage and deployment rather than separate feature tiers. Teams should consider how pooled AI limits and self-managed hosting fit their operating needs.

Workflow tools include rules for routing, tagging and prioritizing tickets, first-reply and resolution SLA targets, and reports on volume, response times, SLA breaches and satisfaction. Integrations include Google, Microsoft, SMTP, Linear, GitHub, Jira, Sentry, Slack and Stripe, alongside email services such as Resend, Postmark and Amazon SES. The REST API, webhooks and realtime updates provide additional options for technical teams. Choose opendesk if a shared queue across email and chat, workflow controls and self-hosting are priorities; teams seeking a narrowly focused email inbox or a managed setup without deployment responsibility may prefer another approach. It supports web, desktop and mobile platforms, with email, docs and community support channels.
