A Windows-focused painting app with replay tools, PSD support, and a 120-day trial.

openCanvas is a Windows painting and illustration application for beginners through advanced users. It focuses on digital artwork with customizable brushes, pressure-sensitive tablet input, layered documents, filters, transformations, rulers, PSD compatibility, editable text layers, and stroke stabilization. The published plan is openCanvas7 Steam Edition, designed for Windows painting and illustration. It supports Windows 7 or newer and is intended for artists who want a desktop-focused tool with both drawing features and process replay.
The standout feature is its Event function, which records and replays drawing processes and can output GIF files. That gives artists a way to present how an illustration develops rather than only sharing the finished image. The painting toolkit is broad for a single Windows application: the brush system includes more than 150 default presets and supports customization, while layer masks, blending modes, layer sets, perspective rulers, radial rulers, concentric-circle rulers, and parallel rulers support more controlled work. Pressure-sensitive input is available for compatible tablets and Tablet PCs.
Pricing is straightforward. openCanvas7 Steam Edition is listed at ¥6,000 including tax, with no free plan. A 120-day full-function trial provides an extended evaluation period, but the trial becomes restricted after expiry. New purchases moved to Steam on March 30, 2025. openCanvas is a strong fit for Windows users who value replayable drawing workflows, PSD compatibility, and detailed brush and layer controls. Artists who need a verified platform beyond Windows should choose a different option, as the listed coverage is Windows-only.
