OpenCAD Studio review
A capable free CAD option for DWG/DXF drafting and practical 3D solids.

OpenCAD Studio is an open-source CAD application for 2D drafting, drawing layouts and 3D solid modeling. It is aimed at users who need native DWG and DXF workflows, structured drafting tools, and practical solid operations rather than a broad digital-content creation suite. The application runs in a browser without an account or installation, with desktop builds for Windows, macOS and Linux. Its free Projects Free plan includes private project storage, revision history and client download links, while paid plans add private project folders, revision history and client links.
Its strongest fit is the combination of drafting depth and file compatibility. Command autocomplete, object snaps, tracking, layers, blocks, attribute prompting, external references, dimensions, text, leaders, tables and paper-space layouts support detailed CAD work. For 3D, the software provides primitives, extrusion, revolution, sweep, loft and Boolean solid operations, with orthographic and perspective views. Browser drawings are handled locally, while optional Projects plans provide online project features for sharing and revision tracking. This makes OpenCAD Studio suitable for independent drafters, small project teams and users who need desktop and browser access across major operating systems.
The trade-off is focus. OpenCAD Studio covers drafting and solid modeling well, but it is not positioned as a full modeling, animation or visualization environment. Animation, sculpting, rendering and parametric features are not verified here, so users requiring those capabilities should choose a more specialized alternative. Choose OpenCAD Studio when DWG/DXF support, 2D documentation, basic-to-intermediate 3D solids and STL export matter most. Avoid it when the workflow depends on character sculpting, animation production, advanced rendering or parametric design.
