Open Dental is dental practice management software for dental offices and multi-location organizations. It combines appointment scheduling with provider and operatory calendars, patient records, treatment planning, billing, insurance management, imaging, reporting, automated reminders, online booking, and digital forms. It suits practices that want scheduling within a broader clinical and administrative system, rather than a standalone calendar. Patients can book new, existing, or recall appointments online, while practices can collect registration and medical-history information through Web Forms.
Pricing varies by country and deployment. In the United States, the initial Software License and Support rate is $199 per location per month with annual billing and covers all computers at one location for up to 3 providers, with software updates and telephone, chat, and email technical support. The reduced rate is $149 per location per month with monthly billing and includes updates plus telephone, chat, and email support. Other countries are listed at $89 per location per month with annual billing, including updates and email and telephone support. The Developing Countries plan includes Open Dental software. Open Dental Cloud costs $430 per location per month with monthly billing and includes hosting managed by Open Dental, 15 concurrent sessions, and 50GB of OpenDentImages storage.
Scheduling can be expanded through Web Sched add-ons: Web Sched Recall costs $75 per location per month and includes automatic appointment insertion and Web Sched ASAP; the new-patient and existing-patient option also costs $75; and Web Sched ASAP costs $20 and lets patients claim or decline last-minute openings. The platform connects with dental imaging software, DentalXChange, PatientViewer, Mailchimp, DoseSpot, and Ensora eRx, and supports program bridges and native integrations. Practices seeking broad dental workflows, multi-location management, and deployment choice should consider Open Dental. Practices wanting a simple scheduling-only product or a fully hosted option outside the United States should look elsewhere.
