Open Burning Suite is a free, open-source desktop application for creating, reading, copying, burning, and verifying optical discs. It supports Windows, Linux, and macOS, and serves users who need a cross-platform workflow for data, audio, video, gaming, copying, or disc erasure. Its video capabilities include DVD-Video authoring through FFmpeg, Blu-ray BDMV and BDAV authoring, and support for VCD, SVCD, and XSVCD workflows. Dual-layer DVD media is also supported.

The software’s strongest advantage is its breadth across disc formats and authoring tasks. It can burn CD, DVD, HD DVD, and Blu-ray media; build images using ISO, Joliet, UDF, Rock Ridge, and HFS+; and work with ISO, BIN/CUE, NRG, MDF/MDS, IMG, CDI, and other image formats. TAO, SAO, DAO, RAW, and incremental write modes provide additional control. Audio CD creation, ripping, CD-TEXT, playlist importing, disc copying, multi-copy burning, simulation, and finalization extend it beyond DVD authoring alone.

Verification is a notable fit for users who want checks after burning, with CRC32, MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, and SHA-512 options. Step-by-step wizards cover audio, video, data, gaming, copy, and erase workflows, giving the product a structured path for common tasks. However, the published DVD-Video scope does not establish detailed menu or chapter workflows, subtitle authoring or import, or NTSC/PAL handling. Choose Open Burning Suite for broad, open-source optical-disc work across major desktop operating systems; choose another tool if advanced DVD menu, chapter, subtitle, or television-standard controls are central requirements.
