Octodoro review
A free web-based Pomodoro timer that adds social play and AI study help.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
Octodoro is a web-based study timer for students who want structure with a social, game-like layer. Its focus sessions follow a 25-minute Pomodoro pattern, with short and long breaks. Studying earns XP and levels; users can compare activity on leaderboards, join real-time lobbies, and customize an octopus avatar with unlockable items and themes. An AI study coach can explain topics, generate quizzes and flashcards, and turn goals into study plans. That combination makes Octodoro more than a basic countdown, though its appeal depends on whether rewards and community features help a student stay focused.
The free plan includes the Pomodoro timer, XP and levels, leaderboards, study lobbies, and the AI coach. Octodoro Premium costs $2.29 per month and adds premium colour themes, a 3x coin boost, exclusive cosmetics, and private study lobbies. A 7-day free trial is shown. The paid tier chiefly expands customization and privacy for lobbies rather than adding a different timer or coach feature set, so students who only need focus intervals and study assistance can start with Free. Premium fits users who specifically want its extras.
The product runs on the web, with Google sign-in and Stripe listed among its integrations. Its feature breadth is unusual for a timer: the coach supports explanations, quizzes, flashcards, and study plans, while shared lobbies and leaderboards give sessions a communal dimension. Those features may not suit someone who wants a quiet, minimal timer; XP, rankings, and avatar rewards can introduce another layer of activity around studying. Pick Octodoro if a browser-based timer, game progression, and AI study aids belong in the same workflow. Choose a simpler timer if social competition and customization are distractions rather than motivation.
