NotePerformer review
Score-aware orchestral playback with strong notation integration and focused platform coverage.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
NotePerformer is a virtual instrument and orchestral playback library for music notation users. It integrates with Sibelius, Dorico, and Finale, and provides a built-in orchestral sound library with instruments covering strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion, keyboards, guitars, voices, and other orchestral sounds. Its score-aware musical phrasing is supported by section building, divisi playback, articulations, mutes, tremolos, harmonics, vibrato control, custom organ registration, and MIDI-based performance adjustments. The product is designed for composers, arrangers, and notation users who want orchestral playback shaped by a written score.
The Single-user license costs $129 one time and includes a perpetual license, use on as many computers as you like, and EU VAT. Rent-to-Own costs $10.75 per month, converts to a perpetual license after 12 months of payments, can be canceled at any time, and has a total charge of $129. The Site license starts at 1–5 seats and costs $200 one time. It includes a perpetual license for multiple users on a single site. A 30-day trial is available, and there is no free plan.
NotePerformer does not provide a standalone app, so it depends on supported notation applications for operation. It runs on macOS and Windows, while its listed plug-in format is Audio Units. NotePerformer 5 discontinued VST3 hosting and focuses on its built-in sound engine. Users seeking broader host coverage, a standalone workflow, or a different plug-in format should consider an alternative. It is also more narrowly suited to orchestral notation playback than to users looking for a general-purpose virtual instrument environment.
