Norwegian Web Archive review
A free national collection of Norwegian websites, not a public-facing archive viewer.

The Norwegian Web Archive is a National Library of Norway collection that preserves websites, primarily those under the .no domain, under Norway’s Legal Deposit Act. It also collects qualifying foreign-domain sites when they are Norwegian-language or relevant to Norwegian culture. Researchers studying Norway’s web presence are its clearest audience; it is a national collection, not a general-purpose service for browsing archived pages.
Its collection methods suit preservation work across different timescales. Regular harvesting covers .no websites, while selected sites can receive shorter-interval harvesting and national events can trigger event-based collection. Qualifying websites can also be nominated by email. The archive aims to preserve webpages in their original form and structure, including constituent text, images, and link structures; selected harvesting also includes music and audiovisual content. A complete capture is not guaranteed, so researchers should not treat every archived site as a fully intact copy.
The service is free, but access is governed by copyright and personal-data rules; restricted material requires clear consent for access. The Library says it does not currently offer a public service for displaying archived pages, which is a defining limitation for people who want to browse snapshots directly. Email and phone are listed as support channels. Choose this archive for research into Norwegian web history and its preservation collection; choose another tool if you need a user-facing archive viewer or unrestricted access to captured material.
