Norton Private Browser is a free browser for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS, aimed at people who want web-threat blocking and privacy controls without paying for a browser plan. Web Shield is designed to block phishing, malware, dangerous websites, downloads, and scams. Privacy Guard blocks ads and trackers, and offers basic, balanced, and strict blocking modes. The browser is a fit for users who prioritize built-in protection; those who need the same sync coverage across every listed platform should look elsewhere.

Its privacy and browsing controls go beyond threat blocking. Strict mode adds anti-fingerprinting protection, while HTTPS encryption applies where supported. Private Mode does not retain browsing history and removes tracking cookies and cache. Saved passwords can be protected, users can select a search provider including Norton Safe Search, and bookmarks, history, search engines, passwords, and autofill data can be imported from major browsers. These options make it easier to bring existing browsing information over and tune blocking behavior, though the clearest reason to choose the browser is its combination of protection and privacy features rather than a specialized workflow.

Norton Sync connects bookmarks and browsing history between Windows and Mac through a Norton Account. That is useful for users moving between those two desktop platforms, but it does not extend the stated sync coverage to iOS or Android. The product is free to download, with the Free plan listing Web Shield, Privacy Guard, and ad and tracker blocking. Choose Norton Private Browser if free threat protection and configurable tracking controls are the priority; choose another browser if cross-device continuity needs to cover all four listed platforms.

Norton Private Browser pros and cons

  • Where it doesn't
    • Norton Sync covers Windows and Mac, not the full listed platform range.
    • Anti-fingerprinting protection is available only in strict blocking mode.
    • Private Mode removes tracking cookies and cache but does not retain browsing history.
