Noeko review
A research-focused knowledge base with cited AI answers and visual connections.

Noeko is an open-source knowledge management application for capturing notes and Ideas, organizing research, and connecting related concepts. It is suited to research teams building linked internal knowledge, as well as people doing personal knowledge management and collaborative knowledge work. The web application runs in modern desktop browsers, is available as an optional PWA, and can also be self-hosted. Its hosted service is currently in private beta and remains free during beta with storage and compute limits.
Research is the product’s clearest focus. Semantic and lexical search help retrieve information across notes, tasks, Ideas, and uploaded sources, while Spyglass provides natural-language answers with citations. Users can upload, annotate, and reference PDF sources, then link Ideas into a visual knowledge graph. Tagging, hierarchical workspaces, and Rabbithole workflows add structure for organizing material and moving knowledge through defined stages. Markdown import and export also support exchange with other writing and knowledge workflows.
Noeko’s open-source model and self-hosting option make it a fit for teams that want control over deployment and a knowledge base centered on connected research rather than conventional documentation alone. Collaboration and sharing support internal knowledge work, while the combination of cited answers, PDF annotation, and graph-based linking gives the product a distinctive research workflow. The tradeoff is that integrations, maturity, and core documentation controls are limited, and the hosted offering is still in private beta. Teams that need a mature documentation system with broad integrations may prefer an alternative; teams prioritizing linked sources, semantic retrieval, and self-hosting should consider Noeko.
