NeoChat is KDE’s client for the Matrix messaging network, aimed at people who want to send messages and media, join rooms, and organize group conversations with Matrix Spaces. It runs on Linux and Windows, with Android support described by KDE as work in progress. Its free, open-source approach suits individuals and teams who want a Matrix client across desktop and mobile, particularly when text chat and room participation matter more than calling.

The feature set covers everyday room activity as well as account management: users can register and switch between accounts, search room history, react with emojis, and access recent notifications and push notifications. NeoChat also supports sending text, video, and audio files, and provides room security settings and device security details. KDE says its stable implementation follows much of the Matrix specification, while noting exceptions for VoIP, threaded conversations, and some aspects of end-to-end encryption. Those caveats make it important to distinguish messaging coverage from a complete set of Matrix capabilities.

NeoChat is free, so there are no paid tiers to weigh against its feature set. It is a sensible choice for Matrix users seeking desktop messaging with Android availability, but the mobile experience may be less mature while support remains in progress. It is a poor fit for people who need voice or video calls, threaded conversations, or an iOS app. Those requirements point toward a different client; for text-focused Matrix room participation, search, reactions, and Spaces, NeoChat keeps the scope clear.
