NemakiWare is an open-source enterprise content management and document repository platform from Aegif Corporation. It is designed for organizations and developers that need a controlled, self-hosted content repository with CMIS compatibility, browser access, REST interfaces, and connections to business applications or AI workflows. The platform supports document versioning, lifecycle management, fine-grained permissions, retention, legal holds, archival to Amazon S3, and audit logging. Its web, API, and self-hosted deployment options suit teams that want control over their content infrastructure.
NemakiWare’s strongest fit is its combination of repository governance and search. Full-text, hybrid, and semantic vector search support different discovery patterns, while RAG document chunking and embedding extend content access into AI workflows. The MCP server provides AI-agent access, and webhooks expose document and ACL events. Integrations include Google Drive, OneDrive, Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra ID, Amazon S3, Amazon Bedrock, Hugging Face TEI, and observability or SIEM tools such as Elastic, Loki, and Splunk. These capabilities make it a practical choice for teams connecting governed documents to applications, directories, storage, and AI services.
The trade-off is operational scope. Self-hosted deployment through Docker gives organizations responsibility for running and maintaining the repository environment. NemakiWare is also more focused on controlled document storage, access, search, lifecycle, and compliance-oriented controls than on broad workflow automation. Teams building a developer-managed content repository should find the emphasis appropriate, particularly when CMIS, headless access, audit events, and permission-aware AI retrieval matter. Organizations looking for a wider ECM suite centered on workflow automation may prefer a different platform.
NemakiWare pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Fine-grained permissions with inherited user and group access control
- Full-text, hybrid, and semantic vector search
- Retention, legal holds, audit logging, and AI-agent access
- Where it doesn't
- Self-hosted deployment places infrastructure responsibility on the organization
- Broad workflow automation is not a central capability
- Its feature set is more repository-focused than all-purpose ECM
