Nearpod is a web-based instructional delivery platform for K–12 educators and schools. Teachers can create or customize lessons, upload PowerPoint, Google Slides, PDF, video, and other materials, then deliver sessions live or asynchronously. Students participate through polls, quizzes, open-ended questions, drawing activities, collaborative boards, interactive video, simulations, VR field trips, and 3D objects. Lesson co-editing, permissions, AI-generated formative assessment questions, real-time feedback, and post-session reports support both classroom instruction and ongoing assessment.

Its plan structure covers individual educators and larger school or district deployments. Silver is free and includes 300 MB of storage, 40 student joins per lesson, and core Nearpod features. Gold costs $159 per year and adds 1 GB of storage, 75 student joins per lesson, an AI Create Question Generator, a Google Slides add-on, and Drag & Drop. Platinum costs $397 per year and raises storage to 5 GB and participation to 90 student joins per lesson, while adding student notes. School or District plans use quote-based pricing and include unlimited storage, 250 student joins per lesson, and LMS, LTI, and rostering integrations.

Nearpod fits classrooms that need more than static slides, particularly when lessons combine rich media with frequent checks for understanding. Its integrations include Canvas, Schoology, Moodle, Brightspace, Blackboard, Google Classroom, Google Slides, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Clever, and Renaissance Next. The main trade-off is scale: individual plans impose lesson participation limits, and the richer school or district capacity sits behind quote-based purchasing. Educators seeking interactive, media-rich delivery and formative assessment should consider Nearpod; teams needing a simpler presentation tool or different audience limits may prefer an alternative.

Nearpod pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Combines polls, quizzes, drawing, video, VR, 3D objects, and simulations
    • Supports live and student-paced lessons with real-time feedback and reports
    • Integrates with major LMS, rostering, storage, and classroom platforms
  • Where it doesn't
    • Individual plans limit student joins to 40, 75, or 90 per lesson
    • Gold starts at $159 per year, while school pricing requires a quote
    • Web-based delivery may not suit teams needing a non-web presentation platform
