nanoloop review
A compact eight-channel mobile beatmaking tool with synthesis, sampling and pattern editing.

nanoloop is a compact electronic music program for beatmakers who want sequencing, synthesis and sampling in a mobile format. Its eight channels can operate as synth or sampler channels, while the step sequencer uses a compact 4x4 pattern interface. The app also includes polyphonic FM, PWM and noise synthesis, microphone sample recording, sample loading, sample trimming, resampling, loop playback and a song editor. That combination makes it suited to pattern-based electronic composition, sketching and focused mobile production rather than broad, track-heavy arrangements.
Its strongest area is the depth packed into the core music workflow. Users can automate parameters, edit patterns into songs, record samples through a microphone and export audio. The published app plans show WAV and Ogg Vorbis export for Android, while the iOS app lists WAV export, MIDI synchronization and Ableton Link. MIDI, Ableton Link, Dropbox and SoundCloud are listed as ecosystem connections, and projects can be shared by email. These features give nanoloop practical paths between mobile creation, synchronization and exported audio.
The main trade-off is focus. nanoloop is limited to iOS and Android, and its eight-channel structure favors compact ideas over expansive arrangements. Buyers who want a tightly scoped mobile synth-and-sampler with pattern editing should find the feature set aligned with that purpose. Those needing a larger channel count, desktop platform coverage or a broader production environment should choose a different beatmaking tool. Legacy versions also exist for Game Boy and Game Boy Advance, where nanoloop functions as a sequencer and software synthesizer.
nanoloop pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Eight channels combine sequencing, synthesis and sampling.
- Sample recording, loading, trimming and resampling support flexible workflows.
- MIDI synchronization, Ableton Link and audio export connect projects outward.
- Where it doesn't
- Available only on iOS and Android.
- The sequencer is limited to eight channels.
- The compact 4x4 interface may not suit large arrangements.
