Moodle LMS review
A flexible, full-featured LMS for organisations that want control and extensibility.

Moodle LMS is an open-source learning management system for schools, universities, training providers, and other organisations. It supports course creation, enrolment, quizzes, assignments, forums, workshops, grading, progress tracking, collaboration, and mobile access. Its free software model and self-hosted option suit organisations that want control over their learning environment, while MoodleCloud and certified providers offer managed hosting, implementation, support, and customisation paths.
Its feature depth is a major strength for structured learning programmes. Educators can use reusable question banks, graded assessments, gradebooks, competency frameworks, learning plans, badges, and certificate modules. Offline course access and activity submission through Moodle App extend learning beyond a browser. Themes, plugins, custom integrations, web services, and AI-assisted question generation provide additional room to adapt the platform to institutional processes and content workflows.
Moodle also covers a broad technical environment, with web, iOS, Android, API, and self-hosted options. Integrations include video conferencing, authentication, academic integrity tools, content tools, and BigBlueButton. The trade-off is that a self-hosted deployment places more responsibility on the organisation for setup, maintenance, and operational support. Managed hosting, implementation, support, MoodleCloud, certified-provider services, and some app capabilities are separate paid or quote-based offerings. Choose Moodle when flexibility, extensibility, and ownership matter; consider another LMS if you want a simpler deployment with fewer operational decisions.
