MoI 3D, also called Moment of Inspiration, is a desktop CAD-oriented modeling application for designers and artists who need accurate 3D models through a curve-driven workflow. Its NURBS foundation supports profile modeling, Boolean union, difference, intersection, and merge operations, along with extrude, revolve, loft, sweep, blend, and network construction. Precision features include fillet, chamfer, offset, shell, inset, snapping, numeric input, construction lines, and a scene browser. The software runs on Windows and macOS, with cross-platform licensing.

The pricing structure is straightforward. The Full version costs $295 one-time and includes the Moment of Inspiration v4 full license. The Upgrade version costs $100 one-time and requires a previous MoI license. A 90-day trial is available, while the published purchase offering uses perpetual v4 licenses rather than subscription plans. Version 4 also adds SubD control-polygon to NURBS conversion. This model suits buyers who prefer a one-time license and need a concentrated modeling tool rather than a broader production suite.

MoI 3D is strongest when accurate geometry, curve control, and downstream export matter. It can export meshes with configurable meshing options and supports 3DM, IGES, STEP, SAT, OBJ, STL, FBX, and other formats for rendering, CAM, and 3D-printing workflows. Integration with Rhino and Adobe Illustrator supports established design workflows. The trade-off is focus: there is no render engine or animation tooling, and the product is centered on modeling rather than a complete visual-production pipeline. Choose it for NURBS design and export; choose an alternative if rendering or animation must happen inside the same application.
