Mocap Fusion [VR] review
A broad VR mocap sandbox for capturing complete performances and sending them into creative tools.

Mocap Fusion [VR] is a room-scale virtual-reality motion capture sandbox for artists, animators, game developers, and live-streamers. It records movement through VR headsets and controllers, with optional SteamVR trackers for full-body capture. Facial capture, lip sync, gaze tracking, and finger tracking extend the workflow beyond basic body motion. Custom avatars, scenes, worlds, props, and cameras make it suited to creators who want to record complete animated performances rather than capture isolated movement clips.
Its standout strength is the breadth of capture and editing tools in one VR-focused environment. Users can record, play back, pause, slow down, and scrub motion, then use built-in mocap editing tools and Storyboard mode to replay and edit experiences. VR camera and prop recording add scene direction to the capture process. Live Link plugins connect the software with Unreal Engine, Unity, and Blender, while export workflows support SFM (.dmx), Blender (.blend), Unity (.anim), and BVH. OBS and Steam Workshop are also listed among its integrations.
The main trade-off is its hardware- and platform-centered workflow. Core capture depends on VR headsets, controllers, and SteamVR on Windows, with companion applications supporting facial and finger tracking; optional trackers add to the full-body setup. The product is available as free software and is also associated with a Steam demo and playtest access. Choose Mocap Fusion [VR] if you want an expansive VR capture workspace with live engine connections and multiple export paths. Choose another tool if you need a non-VR-first workflow or broader platform coverage beyond its Windows, SteamVR, iOS, and Meta Quest support.
