MipMap Desktop is Windows software for reconstructing real-world scenes from photos, video, panoramic imagery and, in Ultra editions, LiDAR point clouds. It combines photogrammetric 2D and 3D reconstruction with Gaussian Splatting generation, orthophotos, point clouds, meshes and textured models. GIS, mapping and 3D production teams can also use coordinate-system controls, annotations, measurements, temporal comparisons, cloud synchronization and web sharing. Processing is local on a desktop, while results can be shared and collaborated on through the cloud features.

The freemium structure gives smaller projects a practical entry point. Free supports Gaussian Splatting output, up to 500 images per task and 10 GB of cloud storage. Basic costs $59 per month for up to 5,000 images and 25 GB, while Pro costs $79 per month with unlimited image processing and 50 GB. Ultra is $119 per month and adds LiDAR reconstruction, 100 GB and priority technical support. Pro Perpetual costs $2,499 one time; Ultra Perpetual costs $3,699 one time. Both perpetual plans include perpetual use, Gaussian output, free upgrades within one major version, and their stated storage allowances. A 15-day Ultimate trial is also available.

Its strongest fit is export-heavy Windows work. Gaussian results can be delivered in PLY, SOG and SOGTiles, alongside point-cloud, mesh, textured-model and GIS-oriented formats including PNTS, OSGB, LAS, B3DM, OBJ, FBX, GeoTIFF and Google Map Tiles. Panoramic and fisheye modeling, people removal and Gaussian point-count control add production flexibility. However, teams requiring mobile capture or a non-Windows deployment should choose another tool. LiDAR-focused workflows also need an Ultra plan, so Free, Basic and Pro are better suited to image-based reconstruction.

MipMap Desktop pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Gaussian Splatting from photos, video, panoramic and fisheye imagery
    • Exports include PLY, SOG, SOGTiles, LAS, OBJ, FBX and GeoTIFF
    • Annotations, measurements, temporal comparison and web sharing
  • Where it doesn't
    • Windows desktop deployment only
    • Mobile capture is not supported
    • LiDAR reconstruction requires an Ultra edition
