Metis Mail is an open-source web email client for people managing multiple Gmail, Microsoft 365, Outlook.com, or Zoho Mail accounts. It brings connected mailboxes into a unified inbox and adds an inbox AI agent for triage and questions, along with thread summaries, smart reply drafts, and phishing verdicts with risk scores and explanations. Its email tools include folders, threading, search, attachments, read-state synchronization, scheduled sending, snoozing, and undo-send. Self-hosting is available alongside the hosted service.
Pricing follows a freemium structure. The Open source plan costs $0 forever and includes self-hosting, every feature including the agent, unlimited workspaces and mailboxes, and community support on GitHub. Cloud Pro is $12 per user per month, or $115 per user annually, with up to three connected mailboxes, the inbox agent, smart replies, summaries, and phishing analysis on every message. Workspace costs $20 per user per month, or $192 per user annually, and adds shared mailboxes, team rules, role-based workspace administration, and priority support. The hosted version is described as free during beta, while these paid plans define the listed tier structure.
The strongest fit is for individuals or teams that want AI-assisted email handling without giving up a self-hosted, open-source option. The combination of synchronized mail management, scheduling controls, keyboard shortcuts, and phishing analysis gives the product a broad email-workspace scope rather than a narrow inbox view. Workspace is the appropriate tier for shared operational mailboxes and administration, while Cloud Pro suits users with up to three connected accounts. Buyers seeking native desktop or mobile applications should look elsewhere, since Metis Mail is web-only. Teams that require shared mailboxes but do not want the Workspace plan will also find the tier structure limiting.
