MediaPortal PVR Client review
A free Kodi client for MediaPortal TV Server, with live TV, recordings, radio and EPG.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
MediaPortal PVR Client connects Kodi to a MediaPortal TV Server so users can watch live television and recordings, listen to radio channels, and view electronic program guide data and timers. It suits people who already run MediaPortal as their TV backend and want Kodi as a viewing client. The add-on is free, available through Kodi’s official add-on repository, and supports Windows, macOS and Android. It is a client integration, not a standalone source of television service.
The feature set centers on playback and TV guide handling. Streams can use direct file access or RTSP, depending on configuration, and the client can import TV and radio channels filtered by server-side groups. It also supports translating EPG genre strings into Kodi-compatible genre IDs. Those controls are useful when a MediaPortal setup has specific channel groups or guide metadata to preserve; they do not replace the backend that supplies the channels, recordings or guide information.
Installation is through Kodi’s repository, but setup depends on a separately configured MediaPortal TV Server and its TVServerKodi plugin. Users need to configure the backend hostname, connection settings, channel groups and playback method. Community support and documentation are the listed support channels. Choose this add-on if MediaPortal is already part of the setup and Kodi needs access to its TV features. If the goal is a standalone TV service or a client that does not depend on MediaPortal’s server components, this is not the right fit.
