MangaCrisp review
A free, open-source desktop reader with broad format support and automatic page enhancement.

MangaCrisp is a free, open-source desktop reader for manga and comics on macOS, Windows, and Linux. It suits solo readers who keep files locally and want a bookshelf, manga-aware page layouts, and image enhancement in one app. Supported inputs include PDF, CBZ, CBR, ZIP, RAR, 7z, image folders, and individual images, so it can handle both comic archives and collections of image files.
Its manga tools cover right-to-left reading in single-page or two-page spread layouts, saved reading position, and continuing to the next volume. The cover-based bookshelf supports multi-file drag and drop for organizing a local library. This is a focused reading and library setup: it does not include cloud sync or panel-by-panel reading, so readers who need those capabilities should consider another app.
Real-CUGAN is the standout feature. MangaCrisp automatically applies image enhancement around the current reading position, offers original-versus-enhanced comparison, and provides adjustable quality modes. Sequential screen capture can save pages to PNG and CBZ/ZIP. The project describes the app as MIT-licensed, but current builds are beta or preview releases with platform-specific limitations documented by the project. MangaCrisp is a fit for desktop readers who value format breadth and enhanced pages over a synced ecosystem; readers who depend on cloud access or polished stable releases may prefer an alternative.
