Majordomo 2 is an open-source mailing-list manager for administrators who want to run lists on their own infrastructure. It is an upward-compatible rewrite of Majordomo 1, with Linux identified as a suitable operating system in the project description. List administration can happen through email commands, making it a fit for teams that prefer command-based management over a hosted service. Its scope includes subscriber records, delivery settings, posting rules, and message archives rather than broader campaign or marketing workflows.

The controls cover both routine subscriber management and moderation. Administrators can require approval before messages are posted, restrict posting to subscribers or specified senders, and moderate subscription and unsubscription requests. Subscriber options include digest delivery and temporary suspension of mail. Message archives can be retained, with archive indexes or individual messages available for retrieval; subscriber records can also be searched. Optional web interfaces are possible when configured, but this is not a ready-made hosted interface: the site hosting each list determines its configuration and available functions.

The deployment model is the main decision point. The official project description specifies a Unix-like environment and Perl runtime requirements, and identifies Linux as suitable; it also describes source snapshots and CVS distribution. Teams must handle hosting and administration themselves, and current runtime compatibility and project release activity are not established here. Majordomo 2 suits organizations that value self-hosting, email-command administration, and configurable list controls. Those wanting managed hosting, a simple signup-form workflow, or a turnkey web-based campaign product should look elsewhere.
