Mailplane is a macOS desktop application for using Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts outside a browser. It is designed for Mac users who center their communication and scheduling around Google services and want multiple accounts, unread counts, notifications, quick navigation, and offline Gmail access in one interface. The app also includes attachment resizing and conversion, image annotation and shapes, bookmarks, labels, tabs, Chrome extensions, and integrations with tools such as Evernote, DEVONthink, OmniFocus, Receipts, Todoist, and Things.

The published license structure is straightforward. The Personal License is listed at $29.95 one-time and permits installation on any Mac personally used by the buyer. The Family License is listed at $39.95 one-time for up to five family members in a private household. The Site License is listed at $29.95 per seat for companies and institutions, with volume pricing available for three or more users. A 15-day trial is also listed. These are legacy figures, however: licenses stopped being sold in 2021, so the plans describe the product's historical commercial model rather than a currently purchasable offer.

Mailplane's main strength is focus: it brings Google's core communication services together with desktop conveniences that browser tabs do not provide, including menu-bar status, cross-account search, offline support, attachment handling, and integrations. Its main constraint is equally clear. It is limited to macOS and closely tied to Gmail, Calendar, and Contacts, so it is not a broad email client for users who need varied providers or cross-platform access. Existing Mailplane 4 customers can continue using the application, while Mailplane 5 is in development for Apple silicon and Intel Macs without an announced release date. Choose Mailplane for a focused Google workflow on Mac; choose another client if current availability, broader provider support, or another operating system is essential.
