Magma review
A capable raster painting tool for artists who want to draw together on shared canvases.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
Magma is a raster drawing and painting tool for individual artists and groups who want to work on the same canvas. It combines brushes for inks, pencils, charcoal, markers, textures, blending, foliage, and pixel art with custom brush presets, stylus pressure and tilt, layers, and blend modes. Artists can invite collaborators, communicate through text or voice chat, add comments, and join public Art Jams. Its free Spark plan makes it especially relevant to teams exploring collaborative drawing without an initial subscription.
The free Spark plan includes drawing tools and brushes, up to 60 layers, and up to 30 users per drawing. Blaze costs $9.99 per month and raises the layer limit to 200, expands collaboration limits, adds unlimited version history, and includes premium API access. The Fusion plan lists connected storage, unlimited API access, SAML SSO, an administrator panel, video calls, and screen sharing; its pricing is custom. Fusion for Education focuses on collaborative classroom drawing, certification, and customizable career and technical pathways. Buyers should compare the listed plan features with their collaboration and administration needs before choosing a paid tier.
Magma also supports importing PSD files and exporting layered PSDs, making it a fit for artists whose workflows include Photoshop or Clip Studio Paint. The browser app works across Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebooks, tablets, and phones; desktop apps are available for Windows and Mac, with mobile platforms also listed. Perspective grids, lasso fill, liquify, curves, blur, and text tools broaden the painting toolkit. The listed support channel is community, so buyers who require another support route may prefer a different option. Choose Magma for shared canvas work and raster painting; solo artists who do not need collaboration may not benefit from its central distinction.
Magma pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Spark supports shared drawings with up to 30 users and up to 60 layers.
- Brushes, stylus pressure and tilt, blend modes, and PSD workflows support detailed work.
- Runs on web, desktop, and mobile, with canvas chat, voice chat, and comments.
- Where it doesn't
- Blaze starts at $9.99 per month for expanded collaboration and up to 200 layers.
- Fusion pricing is custom, adding uncertainty for organizations evaluating that tier.
- Community is the listed support channel, which may not suit buyers needing direct support.
