Mage-OS review
A capable free commerce foundation for teams prepared to manage self-hosting.

Mage-OS is a community-owned, open-source ecommerce platform derived from Magento Open Source. It is designed for merchants, developers, agencies, and organizations with technical resources. The platform covers catalog management, checkout, payment gateways, shipping, tax configuration, customer and order management, reporting, promotions, SEO tools, newsletters, and downloadable products. It supports web, Windows, macOS, Linux, API, and self-hosted environments, giving technical teams a broad commerce foundation to operate on their own infrastructure or through an external provider.
Pricing is straightforward at the platform level: Mage-OS is free to download, has no licensing fees, and has no platform transaction fees. There is no vendor-hosted pricing plan. Hosting, implementation, extensions, development, and maintenance remain separate costs, so the total investment depends on the infrastructure and technical work required. Composer-based installation and migration from Magento Open Source can support teams already familiar with that ecosystem, while new teams should plan for setup and ongoing administration rather than treating the free license as a complete operating budget.
Its strongest fit is for organizations that need breadth: multistore management can cover multiple brands, languages, currencies, and shared inventory, while REST and GraphQL APIs support custom applications and integrations. Security-related controls include two-factor authentication and role-based access control, and reporting covers sales, tax, customers, and abandoned carts. Mage-OS is less suitable for teams seeking a fully managed storefront with minimal technical ownership. Choose it when control, extensibility, and self-hosting matter; choose another platform when hosted operations and a lighter maintenance commitment are higher priorities.
