Our verdict on Lydia
Lydia is a mobile payment app from Lydia Solutions for sending and receiving money between friends and family. It supports payments by phone number, email address or QR code, as well as requests from one or more recipients. Users can receive funds in a Lydia wallet or bank account, create online money pots for events, trips and shared gifts, and use payment links for recipients who do not have the app. Lydia is available on iOS and Android.
For group collection, Lydia covers several common payment flows in one product. A money pot can accept card, bank transfer, Apple Pay and Google Pay contributions, while expense splitting lets organizers set an amount per person. Payment requests work for individual or multiple recipients, and received funds can transfer automatically to a bank account. These features make Lydia a practical fit for shared purchases, informal collections and organized group contributions. International transfers are also supported.
Lydia uses a free account with transaction-based fees rather than subscription tiers. Sending is free within the published allowance, while charges may apply beyond those limits. Money-pot withdrawals vary by funding and withdrawal method, so the total cost depends on how a collection is funded and paid out. Choose Lydia if you want flexible collection methods, group money pots and payment requests across mobile devices. It is less suitable for organizations seeking a broader financial-management suite or a simple subscription with one predictable fee structure.
