LUNA is a web-based digital asset management platform for museums, libraries, archives, educational institutions, collectors and other organizations managing cultural heritage collections. It supports images, video, audio, PDFs, books and manuscripts, combining metadata-driven discovery with collection organization, access controls, bulk ingestion and public delivery. LUNA is available as hosted software and supports on-premises deployment options, making it suitable for institutions that need structured archival cataloging across varied media formats.
The published annual plans start with LUNA Solo at $1,600 per year for one user, 100 GB of storage, online documentation, email ticketing and public or restricted access. LUNA 5 costs $2,600 for up to five users and 150 GB, while LUNA 10 costs $4,400 for up to 10 users and 200 GB. The LUNA plan is $7,400 for 250 GB, unlimited users, authentication and authorization options, and a custom domain. LUNA Performance costs $7,650 for 500 GB, unlimited users, telephone support and training. Enterprise provides 1 TB of storage through a custom quote. There is no free plan.
Its strongest fit is archival and cultural-heritage work: custom metadata fields, tagging, faceted and full-text search, customizable data structures, annotations, media groups, presentations, slideshows, automatic derivatives and JPEG2000 creation support detailed collection management and delivery. IIIF, OAI-PMH, Active Directory, LDAP, OpenLDAP, Google Analytics and the Google Cloud Vision API broaden its ecosystem fit, while APIs support programmatic access. AI Search Assist and AI Catalog Assist add cataloging and discovery features. Organizations needing approval or version workflows, or seeking a lower-cost general-purpose DAM, should consider an alternative; institutions prioritizing preservation, metadata depth and public collection access should pick LUNA.
