Lookout review
A free, open-source Linux client that brings email, calendars, contacts, and tasks together.

Lookout is a native GNOME desktop email client for Linux users who want email, calendars, contacts, and tasks in one application. It connects through GNOME Online Accounts or direct IMAP and SMTP configuration, supports multiple accounts with live IDLE updates, and stores a local cache for offline reading. The application is free and open source under the GPL-3.0-or-later license, with distribution through Flatpak, Snap, Debian, and Fedora packages. It is a practical fit for people invested in the GNOME desktop and open-source software, especially when calendar and contact access matter alongside email.
Its strongest advantage is breadth within a focused desktop workflow. Email includes local SQLite FTS5 full-text search, rich HTML composition, inline images, tables, links, and attachments. Calendar support covers CalDAV with month, week, day, agenda, and split views, while CardDAV adds contact groups, favorites, and import/export. Google Tasks support extends the application beyond mail and calendar. Integrations include GNOME Online Accounts, Google, Microsoft 365, and Nextcloud, giving users several account and service paths without requiring a separate calendar or contacts application.
Lookout also emphasizes local access and safer message rendering: offline use comes through its local cache, and WebKit rendering is sandboxed with remote images blocked by default. The main trade-off is platform scope, since the product targets Linux rather than a broader desktop set. AI features are not included, and the published feature set does not describe a unified inbox or scheduled sending. Choose Lookout for a free GNOME-centered workspace with integrated mail, calendar, contacts, and tasks; choose another client if cross-platform availability, AI assistance, or those specific workflow features are priorities.
