Linux Kodachi is a Debian-based operating system for people who want privacy and security tools integrated into a Linux desktop. Its routing controls cover VPN, Tor, proxies and DNS, alongside system hardening and anti-leak enforcement. It can run from a live USB with persistent storage options, or be installed on hardware or in a virtual machine. The fit is strongest for Linux users who want these controls in one operating system rather than a general-purpose desktop without integrated routing options.

The published plans separate personal use from organizational licensing. Free costs $0 per license on an ongoing basis and covers personal, educational and research use, with the privacy core, documentation and community support. Premium costs $99 per device annually and adds commercial usage rights, Vitals, SOC and ColonyOps dashboards, plus priority issue triage. Custom costs $600 per device annually; it adds a single-tenant VPS for the organization and custom-server operations, with priority issue triage. The paid options matter to businesses that need commercial rights or organization-specific services, while the Free plan is the relevant entry point for individual and noncommercial use.

Installation flexibility and verification are useful parts of the security workflow: the vendor publishes signed ISO downloads with checksum and signature verification, and offers installation instructions. Encrypted backup and restore tools and persistent live USB storage extend the privacy setup beyond network routing. The product is Linux-only and self-hosted, with community support and documentation rather than the paid tiers’ priority issue triage. Choose Kodachi if configurable routing, bootable use and hardening are central requirements; consider another option if you need a different operating system platform or support beyond those channels.
