Learning with Texts is a free, open-source, self-hosted web application for language learners who want to study through imported reading material. It supports text, audio, and annotated or interlinear formats, letting learners read while optionally listening, inspect words and multi-word expressions, save vocabulary, and review terms in context. The application runs in a modern browser and is available through web, Windows, macOS, Linux, and self-hosted setups.

Its strongest area is vocabulary work built around authentic text. LWT can automatically split imported material into sentences and words, track and edit vocabulary status, and provide contextual testing. Massive-Context Cloze Deletion adds another review format, while progress statistics help learners monitor study activity. Lookup can connect with Glosbe, Google Translate, and external web dictionaries, and vocabulary can move through CSV or TSV files. Anki export supports cloze-test workflows outside the application.

The trade-off is setup and focus. LWT requires a local web and database server based on Apache, PHP, and MySQL, so it suits learners comfortable with self-hosting or local server configuration more than people seeking an immediately ready mobile app. Offline learning is supported through annotated interlinear text, and the platform can run across major desktop operating systems, but its feature set stays centered on reading, listening, vocabulary tracking, and testing. Choose Learning with Texts for structured desktop immersion and control over imported content; choose another language app if mobile-first access or a simpler hosted setup is essential.
