Lean Library Workspace is a reference management and collaborative writing tool for students, researchers, faculty, and academic libraries. It supports reference capture from websites, Google Scholar, and PubMed, then combines saved sources with PDF and webpage annotation, tags, shared projects, collaborative notes, and synchronized cloud storage. Its web, iOS, Android, and Chrome extension experiences make it a practical fit for researchers who move between devices or work with others on academic projects.
The free Basic plan includes reference library access, a browser extension, Microsoft Word and Google Docs plugins, and shared project access. The Subscription plan adds capacity for up to 150 projects, article suggestions, and smart citation suggestions. Across the workspace, AI-recommended relevant articles, cloud-synchronized references and notes, and bibliographies in more than 7,000 citation styles extend the core citation workflow. The plan structure suits users who want to start with essential reference management and move to broader discovery and project capacity as their work expands.
Workspace fits established academic ecosystems through integrations with Google Scholar, PubMed, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero, Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive. It can import PDF, BibTeX, RIS, NBIB, and XML files, and supports both major word-processing add-ons. The browser extension works with Chrome, Edge, Safari, and Opera, but not Firefox. Choose Workspace if mobile access, shared research projects, annotation, and citation-style breadth matter together. Researchers who require Firefox extension support or a workflow outside academic reference management should consider a different tool.
