LayaAir review
An open-source engine with visual editors, blueprints, and multi-platform publishing.

LayaAir combines a 2D and 3D game engine with an integrated IDE for building games and other interactive projects. Its visual tools include editors for scenes, materials, particles, animation, physics, and UI, alongside blueprints for visual scripting. Publishing targets include HTML5 web, native applications, and mini-game platforms. That makes it a fit for teams that want to author visually and reach several deployment targets from one engine, including solo developers and larger teams. The engine source is available under the MIT license and can be compiled and customized.
The IDE is the central draw: teams can work across scene development, animation, physics, and interface design within its editor suite. LayaAir supports 3D physics through Bullet and PhysX, and 2D physics through Box2D. Publishing spans desktop operating systems and mobile platforms, as well as WeChat, ByteDance, Alipay, OPPO, vivo, and Xiaomi mini-game platforms. TypeScript is the scripting language identified for the engine. This breadth suits projects that need a mix of 2D and 3D work or mini-game distribution; a team focused on a simpler, single-target workflow may not need the full toolset.
LayaAir has a free plan, while its enterprise editions add distinct capabilities. The Regular edition includes performance monitoring, smart resource management, high-performance Spine animation, a CPU particle system, and AI generation features. The Service edition adds technical support and a ticket system to Regular benefits. VIP adds priority bug resolution, VIP technical support, and five Regular edition accounts. According to the vendor's enterprise information, subscriptions are annual and pricing is available by contacting sales. The free, customizable engine is the clearest fit for teams evaluating the workflow or wanting source access; buyers who need enterprise support should compare the paid package benefits with their support needs before choosing.
