Khandaq Messenger review
Free, open-source Tox messaging for private, peer-to-peer chats and calls.

Khandaq Messenger is a free, open-source client for the decentralized Tox network, aimed at people who want private communication without registering a phone number or email address. It supports encrypted text and group chats, voice and video calls, and file sharing. Messages travel peer-to-peer rather than through a central message server, making it a fit for individuals and small groups who prioritize decentralized communication over broad account or device convenience.
Its feature set covers the core messaging needs: users can find and add contacts with a Tox ID or QR code, and create encrypted group chats, share files, or make voice and video calls. Apps are available for Android, Windows, macOS, and Linux, as well as iOS through TestFlight. Profiles can be exported and imported between devices, but that is not simultaneous multi-device use: the official FAQ says one profile is intended for one active device at a time. People who need to keep the same account active across devices should consider that constraint before choosing Khandaq.
Khandaq is in public beta, so it is better suited to users comfortable with beta software than to people seeking a mature, centrally managed messaging service. Its no-phone-or-email signup and peer-to-peer design distinguish it from services built around conventional account registration, while Tox IDs and QR codes shape how contacts are added. Choose it for free, open-source messaging with encryption and desktop and mobile clients; choose an alternative if concurrent use of one profile across devices is essential.
