JMusicBot review
A free, self-hosted Discord bot for varied audio sources and command-based music controls.

JMusicBot is a Java-based Discord music bot that users set up and run themselves. It is aimed at solo users and small communities that want playback in Discord without a paid plan and are comfortable self-hosting. Commands cover adding tracks, viewing and managing the queue, and controlling playback. Server administrators can configure a DJ role and designate music text and voice channels, giving each server control over who manages playback and where music activity happens.
Its source range is a notable strength for communities with varied listening habits: it plays from YouTube, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Vimeo, and Twitch streams, as well as supported online audio streams and local audio files. YouTube and local playlists are supported, and users can search YouTube and SoundCloud for tracks. Queue viewing, track removal, shuffle, and skip sit alongside seek, pause, repeat, volume, and play-next controls. Spotify playback is not supported, so servers that depend on Spotify should choose another option.
The trade-off is deployment: JMusicBot is self-hosted rather than a service that runs for the server, and setup requires a Discord bot token and Java. A setup guide and command reference are available, with docs and community listed as support channels. The project is open source and has a free plan, so it may suit administrators willing to handle setup in exchange for control over deployment and support for local files. Communities seeking hosted operation or support beyond documentation and community channels should look elsewhere.
