Jas is a small open-source vector graphics editor for creating and editing SVG-shaped documents. It suits individual artists, developers, and other users who want a compact, inspectable application for fundamental vector illustration rather than a hosted team design platform. The core toolkit includes rectangles, rounded rectangles, ellipses, lines, polygons, stars, Pen and Pencil path tools, path editing, native text editing, type-on-path text, selection, grouping, keyboard nudging, and undo and redo.

Its strongest fit is focused SVG work. The Pen tool supports smooth, corner, and cusp anchor points, while the Freehand Pencil tool uses Bezier curve fitting. Path editing, erasing, and smoothing tools add control beyond basic shape drawing, and the immutable document model provides undo and redo. SVG import, export, and round-tripping make the format central to the workflow. With web and macOS availability, Jas can serve users who prefer a browser-based editor or a native desktop implementation.

The trade-off is scope. Jas concentrates on drawing and editing SVG documents, so it is less suitable for teams seeking collaboration features, verified integrations, or a broader design ecosystem. PDF export is also outside its stated feature set. The project includes a WebAssembly browser implementation and native implementations using Rust/Dioxus, Swift/AppKit, Python/Qt, and OCaml/GTK. Choose Jas when a free, open-source SVG editor with core illustration tools is the priority; choose an alternative when collaboration, PDF output, or wider platform integration matters more.
