IRCCloud is a hosted IRC client for teams, communities, open-source projects, distributed groups, and friends that rely on IRC for real-time communication. It keeps users connected to IRC servers, stores conversation history, and provides public, private, and one-to-one conversations through web, iOS, and Android apps. The service also supports mobile push notifications, file uploads, inline snippets, an API, and optional private hosted IRC servers for teams.

The Free plan includes unlimited history access, free iOS and Android apps, two IRC connections other than irc.irccloud.com, connections that remain active for two hours while inactive, 100MB drag-and-drop file sharing, and full history export. The published Solo and Team plan listings include unlimited history access, unlimited IRC connections, permanent connections while inactive, unlimited drag-and-drop file sharing, full history export, and Slack workspace connections. A seven-day free trial is listed, while team-account terms specify a 30-day trial for team accounts. Paid accounts also add passworded-server access and BNC connectivity through other IRC clients.

IRCCloud fits groups that want IRC continuity across devices rather than a broad all-purpose collaboration suite. Its strongest distinction is preserving connections and history when users are offline, with BNC access and private hosted servers extending that IRC-centered approach. Slack and GitHub are listed integrations, and the service covers web, iOS, Android, and API access. Teams that need calls or a wider set of modern team-chat features should choose an alternative; IRC communities and teams committed to IRC are the clearest fit.

IRCCloud pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Persistent connections keep users connected while they are offline.
    • Conversation history syncs across web, iOS, and Android.
    • Hosted servers, BNC access, API documentation, and Slack connectivity.
  • Where it doesn't
    • It lacks calls and broader modern team-chat features beyond IRC rooms.
    • The Free plan limits connections and inactive connection duration.
    • Free file sharing is limited to 100MB; paid tiers add unlimited sharing.
