InfinitySky review
A focused, self-hosted sky camera system for Raspberry Pi operators who want automated capture and outputs.

InfinitySky is a self-hosted, open-source all-sky camera system for technically capable operators using Raspberry Pi or Debian-based Linux. It is aimed at astronomy, weather-observation, educational, and experimental imaging installations rather than general-purpose desktop timelapse work. The system schedules recurring sky-image capture, archives images locally, adapts exposure behavior between day and night, and provides a local web interface for configuration. Solo users and small teams can run the system on their own hardware, with community and documentation support.
Its strongest distinction is the way capture and sky-specific outputs are combined. A five-minute default interval provides a recurring schedule, while day- and night-aware exposure behavior is designed for changing light conditions. InfinitySky also generates daily timelapse videos and keograms automatically, reducing the need to assemble those views separately. Raspberry Pi Camera V2 and V3 configurations are supported through libcamera, giving the project a clear fit with those camera modules. Local image archiving keeps the workflow centered on the installation itself.
The trade-off is a narrow, technical deployment model. Linux is the listed platform, and the project is installed from a public repository on Raspberry Pi or Debian-based Linux rather than through a formal packaged GitHub release. That makes InfinitySky better suited to operators comfortable with Linux setup, camera configuration, and maintaining a self-hosted system. Choose it when dedicated sky capture, local control, daily videos, and keograms matter more than broad platform coverage or a packaged installation experience. A different time-lapse tool may fit better for users seeking a general camera workflow or a non-Linux deployment.
InfinitySky pros and cons

- Generates daily timelapse videos and automatic keograms.
- Supports Raspberry Pi Camera V2 and V3 through libcamera.
- Where it doesn't
- Linux is the only listed platform.
- Self-hosted installation requires Raspberry Pi or Debian-based Linux setup.
- Early-stage project without a formal packaged GitHub release.
