Hidemaru Editor is a Windows desktop text editor for text files, source code, email, and HTML. It is aimed at solo users and small teams who work with large files or want search, macros, and editing customization in a desktop tool. The vendor describes a shareware model: free trial use is allowed, while continued use requires a paid license. The editor is not open source, and its published platform coverage is Windows only.

Large-file handling is a notable strength: Hidemaru supports files up to 10 million lines. Search includes regular expressions and fuzzy matching, with search and replace across multiple files. Editing tools include outline and partial-editing features, syntax and color display, and file-type-specific customization. Unicode filenames and support for multiple character encodings help with text from varied workflows. These features suit people handling substantial text or code files; they do not make it a cross-platform choice.

Automation and extensibility are supported through macros, plus vendor-hosted libraries for macros, conversion modules, icon modules, and word-completion dictionaries. According to the vendor's pricing information, the Hidemaru Editor license is 4,400 JPY including tax, or 4,000 JPY before tax, and updates after purchase are free. Support is offered by email. Choose Hidemaru if Windows compatibility and large-file editing are priorities, and the macro and customization options fit your work. Look elsewhere if you need a macOS or Linux desktop editor, or rely on editing features such as multi-cursor, macro recording, or column editing.
