HELIX review
A marker-based capture and analysis workflow built around XEROmotion HALO cameras.

HELIX is optical motion capture software designed to work with XEROmotion’s HALO cameras. It tracks reflective markers on people and objects, making it relevant to labs and teams working in research, gait analysis, sports performance, robotics, ergonomics, game development, and content creation. Human tracking includes body and hand capture, with Helen Hayes Body and VR Body support; the system also tracks rigid and flexible objects. Real-time 3D data, retargeting, and streaming integrations support workflows that need motion to move into downstream tools while capture is underway.
The capture and processing feature set is unusually broad within a marker-based workflow. Camera configuration profiles, live video preview, and calibration—including multi-zone calibration—cover acquisition, while cleanup tools include manual interpolation, marker swaps or reassignment, noise-frame deletion, spline editing, and AI spline interpolation. Analysis graphs cover position, velocity, acceleration, distances, and angles. HELIX can also record synchronized reference video with skeleton overlays and synchronize devices such as gloves, EMG, force plates, and high-speed cameras using timecode, trigger, and sync functions. This makes it a fit for teams that need capture, correction, and measurement in one workflow rather than a narrow tracking utility.
For downstream work, motion data can be exported or stored in Ly, XRS, TRC, C3D, BVH, HTR, FBX, Dynamics, and ANC formats. SDKs and integrations connect HELIX with Unity, Unreal Engine, MotionBuilder, and Siemens Jack, giving animation and simulation teams options for incorporating captured data. Its HALO camera orientation is an important ecosystem consideration: groups seeking a standalone software tool or a different capture setup should compare alternatives. The vendor uses a contact-sales pricing model, so teams should confirm licensing terms directly before planning a purchase. HELIX is most compelling for labs and production teams that need marker capture plus cleanup and analysis; simpler projects may not need this breadth.
HELIX pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Tracks reflective markers on people and rigid or flexible objects
- Combines manual cleanup tools with AI spline interpolation
- Exports to formats including C3D, FBX, BVH and TRC
- Where it doesn't
- Designed to work with XEROmotion HALO cameras
- Its broad capture and cleanup workflow may exceed simpler needs
- Software licensing is handled through contact sales
