GstarCAD review
A multiplatform DWG/DXF CAD tool for drafting teams that need parametric and 3D workflows.

GstarCAD is professional CAD software for creating and editing DWG and DXF drawings, 2D documentation, and 3D models. It is aimed at CAD professionals and organizations in architecture, engineering, manufacturing, and related industries. The feature set covers drafting, annotation, plotting, documentation, parametric and dimensional constraints, 3D modeling, drawing comparison, revision tracking, point-cloud workflows, and developer APIs and SDK support. Its familiar AutoCAD-compatible interface and support for Windows, macOS, and Linux make it a fit for teams working across multiple desktop platforms.
The published plans show both perpetual and annual options. Standard costs $749 as a one-time perpetual license or $299 per license per year for a 1-year subscription. Professional costs $949 one time or $399 per license per year. Premium costs $1120 one time or $449 per license per year. A 30-day free trial is available, while the product is otherwise paid. The plan listings identify the license model as the main distinction shown: perpetual license for one-time purchases and 1-year subscription for annual billing.
For technical drafting teams, GstarCAD’s strongest scope is broad core CAD: native DWG/DXF handling, 2D drafting, 3D modeling, constraints, point clouds, batch drawing analysis, Xref splitting and merging, revision comparison, and customization through APIs. However, specialized architectural BIM, construction-documentation, and rendering workflows belong to the separate GstarCAD Architecture and GstarBIM products. Choose core GstarCAD when multiplatform CAD drafting and design are the priority; choose one of those specialized products instead when the project depends on dedicated architectural BIM workflows.
GstarCAD pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Native DWG and DXF support for drafting and documentation
- Runs across Windows, macOS, and Linux
- Includes parametric constraints, point clouds, revision tools, and APIs
- Where it doesn't
- Core product is not a free plan
- Specialized architectural BIM workflows are separate products
- Architectural rendering and collaboration coverage is limited
