Grabbit review
A free, open-source downloader with strong queue, playlist and preset controls.

Grabbit is a free, open-source desktop video downloader for Windows and Linux. It provides a graphical interface over yt-dlp, allowing users to paste video or playlist URLs, choose video, audio and subtitle options, and manage downloads through a persistent queue. It supports YouTube, Dailymotion, Vimeo and 1000+ sites supported by yt-dlp, with MP4 and MKV output. Playlist downloads, subtitle downloads and batch downloads are also supported, making it suited to users who want more control than a single-link downloader provides.
Its strongest area is download management. The queue persists, while concurrent downloads can be paused, resumed and retried. Playlist-level controls allow format selection for each entry, and video, audio and subtitle formats can be configured independently. Named presets provide a way to reuse preferred settings, while proxy support and rate limiting add control for more specialized workflows. The bundled yt-dlp connection also gives advanced users access to parameter configuration within the application.
Grabbit’s main trade-off is its focused desktop support: it is designed for Windows and Linux rather than a broader device ecosystem. FFmpeg must be installed separately, adding one setup step before all media-processing functions are available. The interface may appeal most to users comfortable choosing formats, managing queues and adjusting yt-dlp parameters; someone seeking a minimal downloader with fewer decisions may prefer a simpler alternative. Choose Grabbit for persistent queues, playlist control and reusable presets, and look elsewhere if separate FFmpeg installation or advanced configuration would be a distraction.
