GPS Camera review
A free, open-source Android camera for map-stamped photos and videos.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
GPS Camera is a native Android camera for people who want location context embedded directly into photos and videos. Captures can display locality, reverse-geocoded address, coordinates, altitude, timestamp and temperature, while GPS latitude, longitude, altitude, timestamp and a Maps link are written to JPEG EXIF metadata. Its free, open-source distribution fits personal users, field workers and small teams with noncommercial needs.
The Free (personal and noncommercial) plan includes the full stated camera feature set rather than a tiered upgrade path. That covers front and rear cameras, portrait and landscape layouts, day and night themes, a full-screen gallery, and draggable, pinch-resizable information stamps. Geotagged video adds a burned-in map and information panel, extending the workflow beyond still photography. Location fallback uses fused and platform providers, helping the app continue working across supported Android location sources.
GPS Camera connects an embedded live OpenStreetMap mini-map with Open-Meteo data and Google Maps launching. The map can open Google Maps and include an embedded Maps URL, while OpenStreetMap supplies the visible map layer. Distributed as an APK, it suits Android-centered capture workflows that value portable metadata and visible map context. Choose it for free personal or other noncommercial geotagging; teams needing commercial licensing, iOS coverage or a broader editing environment should consider a different tool.
