GOnnect review
A free, open-source desktop softphone with broad contact integration and Jitsi Meet escalation.

GOnnect is an open-source unified communications client and softphone for companies and public authorities. It supports SIP telephony, SIP account integration, call forwarding, configurable call handling, and ad-hoc three-party conferences. The desktop focus suits organizations that want a self-managed calling client across Linux and Windows, with contact and directory access built into daily calling workflows.
Its strongest distinction is contact and desktop integration. GOnnect can draw contacts from LDAP, CardDAV, CSV, GNOME Contacts, and Microsoft 365 Contacts and Calendar. It also supports Asterisk, Fritzbox, Cisco, CalDAV, and Evolution Data Service connections. System-tray access, favorites, frequent-call shortcuts, desktop search integration, tel:/sip: URL handling, USB headsets, busylights, and configurable outgoing caller identities extend its fit for office desktops. Calls can be upgraded to Jitsi Meet video conferences, while GOuda chat extensions include Matrix support.
The product is distributed under GPLv2 and is accessible without licensing restrictions, making it a practical choice for teams planning self-managed or on-premises deployments. Professional support and consulting are offered separately. Linux availability is described through Flatpak, while Windows support includes a documented installer and is also described as being in active development. GOnnect should appeal to Linux-oriented organizations that value open-source control, SIP compatibility, and directory connectivity. It is less suitable for teams requiring mobile access, browser calling, or call recording, or for buyers seeking a hosted softphone with those capabilities included.
