GENKI Japanese Apps review
A focused set of mobile companions for reviewing GENKI vocabulary, kanji, and conjugation.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
GENKI Japanese Apps are official mobile companions to The Japan Times Publishing’s GENKI elementary Japanese course. The separate apps focus on vocabulary, kanji, and verb and adjective conjugation, making the suite a natural fit for learners who are following GENKI and want targeted review alongside the course. It is less suited to someone looking for a single, all-in-one Japanese study app or practice centered on speaking or writing.
The three apps divide the material by study task. GENKI Vocab for 3rd Ed. covers more than 1,200 beginner words and includes native-speaker audio, example sentences, and Study, Check, and List modes. GENKI Kanji for 3rd Ed. covers 317 basic kanji and more than 1,100 kanji words, with stroke-order animations and mnemonic illustrations. GENKI Conjugation Cards offers 957 digital cards across 28 conjugation types. Bookmarks and progress checkmarks support ongoing review. This breadth is useful within the elementary-course scope, but the separately sold apps mean learners may need more than one purchase to cover all three areas.
The suite is available on iOS and Android, and is mobile-only. Its audio and translated examples add listening and reading support, while the review modes and visual aids are oriented toward recognizing and practicing course material. The listed features do not include speaking or writing practice, so learners seeking active output practice should pair the apps with another resource. Choose GENKI Japanese Apps if your priority is structured review of GENKI vocabulary, kanji, and conjugation on a phone or tablet; look elsewhere if you want an integrated course with speaking or writing exercises.
