FStormRender review
A focused NVIDIA GPU renderer for 3ds Max production and interactive work.

FStormRender is a GPU-based rendering plugin for Autodesk 3ds Max, designed for architectural 3D artists and other 3D professionals. It supports interactive real-time rendering while scenes are edited, alongside production rendering with path-tracing and direct-lighting kernels. The feature set also covers materials, textures, lighting, volumetrics, cameras, motion blur, animated scene parameters, denoising, and render elements such as depth, normals, materials, and ambient occlusion.
Pricing is straightforward: the FStormRender license costs $30 USD per PC per month and includes one active PC license. The plugin connects directly with Autodesk 3ds Max and supports scene conversion from Corona Renderer, V-Ray, and Octane. It also lists compatibility with Forest Pack, MultiScatter, RailClone, and Ornatrix, which can help fit existing 3ds Max production workflows. LAN network rendering is available through master and slave computers, while cloud rendering is not part of the product’s listed positioning.
FStormRender is a practical choice for Windows-based 3ds Max users who already have a supported NVIDIA GPU and want a renderer with both interactive and production modes. Its rendering toolkit is broader than a basic preview renderer, particularly with animation, denoising, render elements, and scene conversion. The trade-offs are significant for users outside that setup: it is limited to Windows, depends on supported NVIDIA hardware, and is distributed as a 3ds Max plugin rather than a general-purpose renderer. Users working on other operating systems, with different GPU hardware, or outside 3ds Max should choose another rendering tool.
