FotoBox review
A flexible DIY photo booth controller for DSLR capture and custom hardware.

FotoBox is a free, open-source photo booth application for Raspberry Pi, Linux and macOS. It is designed for builders who want to assemble a booth around a gPhoto2-compatible DSLR camera and control capture through a touchscreen, mouse, hardware button, software trigger, keyboard shortcut or presenter. Raspberry Pi support also extends to GPIO hardware such as a buzzer, making the product a fit for custom installations rather than standardized event-service packages.
Its strongest advantage is the combination of camera control and hardware flexibility. FotoBox can trigger photographs directly or use a countdown mode, while gPhoto2 provides the camera connection and pigpio supports Raspberry Pi hardware integration. The application can run with Linux framebuffer output without the X Window System, and its customizable low-memory desktop design suits constrained Raspberry Pi environments. Linux, macOS and Raspberry Pi OS are the published platform targets, so it fits DIY projects built around those systems.
FotoBox stays narrow in scope: its category specification lists photos as the capture mode, and the product details do not include lead capture, sharing or gallery workflows. Printing support is not verified, which matters for event booths that need physical takeaways. Choose FotoBox when control over the hardware, operating environment and capture process matters most, especially for a Linux or Raspberry Pi build. Choose another photo booth product if the priority is a broader guest experience covering printing, lead collection, sharing or galleries.
