FontDrop is a desktop application for identifying typefaces in screenshots, screen captures, photos, and mockups. It targets designers, researchers, and other desktop users who need to identify fonts across many writing systems. Screen-area capture, drag-and-drop image input, clipboard paste with Cmd+V, and an always-on-top bubble support different workflows. Recognition uses GPT vision and a database of more than 990,000 fonts, while visual match previews show ranked results and similarity context.

The published plans show a $0-per-month Free tier with AI-powered detection, free font alternatives, Visual Match previews, and no credit card required. Pro costs $15 per month billed monthly and adds more alternatives to the same core feature set. Studio costs $29 per month billed monthly and is positioned for heavy usage. A 30-day free trial is also advertised, and the refund policy lists a 14-day refund period. One-click downloads are available for free fonts, while paid matches include foundry links.

FontDrop’s main strength is breadth: it recognizes Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and other scripts, then offers three free Google Fonts alternatives with similarity scores. That makes it useful when an exact commercial typeface is unavailable or a free substitute is preferred. The trade-off is platform scope. Official downloads cover Windows and macOS desktops, with no mobile app or browser extension, so browser-first workflows require another tool. Solo professionals and small teams focused on image-based identification should find the desktop workflow well suited; users needing in-browser capture or mobile identification should choose an alternative.
