floccus review
A flexible, free sync layer for bookmarks and tabs, not a full research archive.

floccus is a free, open-source tool for keeping browser bookmarks, open tabs, and tab groups synchronized across browsers and devices. It is aimed at people who want control over where their bookmark data is stored, including users working with self-hosted services. Browser extensions support Chrome, while Android and iOS apps extend access beyond the desktop. floccus is primarily a synchronization layer rather than a hosted bookmark database or a complete read-later system.
Its main strength is flexibility in storage and synchronization. Integrations include Nextcloud Bookmarks, Linkwarden, KaraKeep, WebDAV, Git, Google Drive, and Dropbox. Users can choose two-way merge or one-way synchronization strategies, import and export sync profiles, and use a failsafe designed to guard against unintended large-scale deletion or duplication. Optional end-to-end encryption is available with WebDAV and Google Drive. This combination suits users who already have a preferred storage service or want a self-hosted setup instead of another standalone repository.
The trade-off is a narrow focus. floccus keeps bookmark collections aligned, but it does not add full-text search, web archiving, or duplicate detection. That makes it less suitable for users who want to save page copies, search deeply across a reading library, or automatically clean repeated links. Choose floccus when cross-browser synchronization, storage choice, and open-source control matter most. Choose a broader bookmark manager when discovery, archival preservation, and collection cleanup are central requirements.
